“Hebel flooring was the first choice for this Adelaide, Australia development”
Adelaide’s Luca Group was planning a new development in the city’s North Terrace medical precinct. From a three-level car park, the project at 18A North Terrace evolved into a modern eight level building comprising three floors of medical office accommodation above a five-level car parking facility.
“Hebel’s PowerFloor+ system provided a great solution” and was a “a no-brainer”.
“Using other types of heavier flooring would have resulted in a line-ball decision as to whether we could construct three, rather than two, office floors because of the structural constraints of the existing building. But because of Hebel’s lighter weight, we were able to get that third floor in. As developers, it was imperative for us to maximise our opportunity, and Hebel enabled us to do that at 18A North Terrace.”
“And, having already used Hebel floor and wall systems in many of our other developments, we were working with a product we already knew well and trusted.”
“This meant that as well as wanting flooring that was quick to install, cost efficient and lightweight, we needed to be able to meet dead load capacities such as those required for certain types of medical equipment,” Marco said. “Using the Hebel PowerFloor+ system, we exceeded those requirements and were able to complete the project on time and on budget.”

On the recent M4 widening project on Sydney’s growing WestConnex motorway, the advantages of Hebel once again ensured it was the preferred choice compared with other options. Completed by 2023, the West Connex provide 33 kilometres of motorway, including 19 kilometres of tunnels, linking western and south-west Sydney to the city, airport and Port Botany precincts in Australia.
“Hebel was required to come up with a trapezoid panel to accommodate the requirement. Hebel was chosen for the noise walls not only because of its high performance, but also because the walls were being constructed in areas where the use of alternate heavier precast concrete would not have been possible,” said Stewart.
“It could be done with Hebel due to its lightweight nature, with Hebel one quarter the weight of precast at an equivalent thickness.

Mary Anne McGurr led the Design Inc team that worked with Hebel on designing the noise barriers for the M4 WestConnex Widening Project which is part of the overall West Connex undertaking.
“The panels can be painted, and we can use routing to create patterning on them,” she said. “They’re also light, which is a big benefit in terms of constructibility.”
“Another ‘plus’ about Hebel is the fact that it can be adjusted on site.”
